Sorting Beans and Chickpeas activity for Toddlers and Preschoolers

Sorting Beans and Chickpeas activity

for Toddlers and Preschoolers

I love bringing forth easy and fun activities that my little one would love to play at home !

This particular activity is so easy to set up.

Learning Math concepts for kids doesn't have to be boring.

I will be sharing exactly how I put this simple sorting activity together below .

Materials :

  • A bowl of Kidney beans
  • A bowl of chickpeas
  • A tray
  • A mixing bowl

And, that's really all there is to it !

Sorting activity for Toddlers and preschoolers

Sorting activities can be easily created out with few items in the kitchen and this is how I put this fun activity for learning simple classification math concept for kids :

  • Place 2 set of similar sized bowl, fill one bowl with chickpeas and the other bowl with red beans
  • On a tray , place the 2 filled bowls and add 1 big sized mixing bowl.
  • Empty both the filled bowls and pour them onto the mixing bowl.
  • Mix the beans and chickpeas or at the best, let your child do the mixing part . Its fun 😂

I used colored chickpeas as they are colorful and vibrant and make the activity look more enthusiastic and entertaining.  My little one knew at once, that it was time to sort .

This is a wonderful way to play and learn while teaching toddlers about group classifications.

My little one really loved playing this activity . He did mix few beans in the chickpea bowl , which he realized later and corrected it .

This activity is a fun lesson to learn in preschools as the focus here is to gain pre writing skills ( AKA fine motor skills ) by strengthening the hand muscles.

The little tiny beans and chickpea do a wonderful job of making your child focus and determined to classify the beans and chickpeas accordingly.
